Researchers have identified a new drug variety that has been successful in tackling multiple variants of coronavirus.
The drug is named diABZI and was able to prevent severe COVID-19 in mice that had been infected with the SARS CoV-2.
Further studies have shown that the diABZI drug can treat multiple respiratory coronaviruses.
diABZI is a form of molecule STING agonist that has not yet been approved for treatment but is used experimentally in treating some cancers.
The drug was administered into mice through nasal delivery as it has to reach the lungs to be effective in treatment.
The drug was able stimulate cytokine production and reduce viral load significantly. These all showed its ability to reduce infection.
