Jeff Bezos’ space journeyDate: 22 July 2021 Tags: Miscellaneous
Billionaire Jeff Bezos participated in the maiden space voyage of his company Blue Origin. It was the first human space mission for his company.
Jeff was joined by his brother Mark; a pioneer of aviation; and a teenage student. They were not accompanied by any pilot.
Recently, Virgin Galactic also conducted its maiden space mission. It was however steered by pilots to get to space and come back.
The Blue Origin capsule is completely automated and controlled remotely. This marks the start of a new space rivalry between billionaires.
The idea behind the demonstration was simple. To convince people about the potential of space tourism and earn a new source of revenue.
The start of journey
Blue origin was started by Bezos in 2000. The space rocket that took Bezos to space was named after Allan Shepard, the first American in space.
The 52nd anniversary of Apollo-11 mission was chosen for the space voyage. A new modern New Glenn rocket is under work for future missions.
The capsule will take off vertically on board a rocket at a speed more than sound. The capsule will then separate and make a free fall using parachutes. Passengers get to experience weightlessness for a brief period.
Blue Origin is expected to start commercial operations soon for tourists. The new Glenn spacecraft can carry cargo in future for space missions.
