The Kerala government has decided to set up Smart Kitchen project that will help homemakers to reduce difficulty in chores.

 

Details

• The scheme involves giving soft loans for women to buy gadgets or equipments for their kitchen.

• The loan can be repaid by the beneficiary within a stipulated time period. The state government, beneficiary and local self government will share cost of interest.

• There is a belief that women’s participation in labour is hampered by pressure of household work. This has reduced their contributions in economy.

• Mechanisation in kitchens through equipments and gadgets will help reduce burden and allow them to contribute to the growth of society.

 

Beneficiaries

• Major beneficiaries will be the women members of Kudumbashree scheme. This scheme has been envisioned for poverty alleviation and empowerment.

• No collateral will be asked for getting the loans under the scheme. The preference of the gadget needed will be left for the beneficiary.
