  • IML was said to offer Muslims in Kerala an alternative option to IUML. It was said to protect Muslim rights.

  • The aim was to turn as the principal party among Muslim voters in the northern Muslim-dominated districts of Kerala.

The growth

  • The party knew that for tasting success it had to go with bigger parties. Congress and BJP were unacceptable to the party but left party leaders were against coalition with INL.

  • It has unofficial understanding with CPM in several seats and also in local body elections. They however did not officially join the government.

The feud

  • The LDF has refused to allow two factions to exist simultaneously until the feud is resolved. There is also a chance of power show to claim the recognition of Election Commission.
