Countries ease travel curbs

Issue

Increase in pace of vaccinations has allowed many countries to remove the restrictions imposed on travelers from certain countries.

 

Background

The increase in Delta variant cases had forced many countries to impose restrictions on travel from India.

 

Details

  • Spain and UAE have now allowed certain categories of Indian travelers to enter their country. However, conditions have been imposed.

  • UAE will lift ban on six countries including India and allow them entry from August 5th. However, the travelers should have residency visa.

  • Apart from residency visa, they should be vaccinated with two doses of vaccine and the last dose should have been taken atleast 14 days prior to travel.

  • The restriction on entry of transit passengers has also been removed. The airlines will take time before they make arranagements.

 

Significance

  • Indian passengers, especially students, travelling to US and European universities will be benefitted by the new move.

  • Indian passengers can now board flight from UAE. The restrictions on Indian travel had earlier caused inconvenience to students.

 

Spain’s actions

  • Indian tourists getting vaccinated with both the doses 14 days prior to travel are allowed to enter the country.

  • Spain has however said that vaccines approved by WHO and European Medicines Agency will be considered for approval. This list includes Covishield but not Covaxin.

 

Other travel

  • International flights from India have been banned. India has been operating flights under air bubble arrangements with several countries.

  • Countries including US and Germany have removed India from restricted passenger list, effectively allowing Indians to travel to these countries.
