Prince Andrew has asked a US judge to withdraw a case related to sexual abuse allegations against him.
Prince Andrew is the second son of Queen Elizabeth II and the younger brother of Prince Charles.
A woman named Virginia Giuffre has alleged that she was trafficked to Prince Andrew. The legal team of the prince has termed the move a publicity stunt.
Prince Andrew is the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He holds the title of Duke of York and was the first child to be born in 103 years to a ruling monarch.
Andrew had a distinguished career in military, serving the Royal Navy for 22 years. He was appointed as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment after his retirement.
He had to step down from the position after details emerged of his links with Jeffrey Epstein and some other controversial figures.
The Jeffery Epstein controversy
Jeffery Epstein was a hedge fund business man who was accused by many women for sexually abusing them when they were young.
Epstein was accused of running child trafficking racket. His close contacts included former Presidents Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew.
The Prince was forced to move away from his royal duties after a controversial interview of the Prince was aired.
The lawsuit filed by Giuffre says that she was sexually abused by the Prince at Ghislaine Maxwell’s home. Andrew has denied the charges.
Maxwell is a British socialite and Epstein’s former associate who had helped in trafficking under-age girls for exploitation.
She was arrested in US in 2020 and was accused with federal sex trafficking charges. She has denied involvement in the affair.
