Cabinet approves MoU between India and Indonesia on narcotic traffickingDate: 28 March 2019 Tags: India & World
Union Cabinet has approved signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Indonesia on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursors. It will help in mutual cooperation in regulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and in combating drug trafficking. It will come into force on date of signing and will remain in effect for a period of five years. India so far has signed similar MoUs/Conventions/Agreements with the 37 countries.
Salient features of MoU
- Facilitate and enhance cooperation between two countries in combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and its precursors as defined by United Nations International Drug Control Conventions (UNODC).
- The cooperation under it will include exchange of information on existing legal instruments of national legislation of both countries in combating illicit narcotic trafficking of narcotic and its precursors.
- It will also allow and assist both countries in use of controlled delivery operation with view to identifying persons involved in illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, its precursors and essential chemicals, prevention of money laundering.
- It has provision of maintaining secrecy of information and documents obtained by either country on it.
