Issue

The worm moon has started shining brighter in the night sky, which also marks the arrival of spring season.

Details

  • The worm moon is the last full Moon of the winter equinox and the beginning of spring. It was named so by some native American tribes.

  • Similar events such as Wolf moon and snow moon have already occurred. The worm moon this year is also a Supermoon and occurs two days before the Spring Equinox.

Origin of term

  • Many theories exist regarding the origin of the term. One theory says that it refers to earthworms appearing as soil temperature increased at this time of year.

  • Subsequent detailed research found out that it referred to beetle larvae emerging from thawing bark of trees.

Supermoon

  • The moon is called supermoon as it appears much larger and brighter than a regular full moon. It usually occurs in March.

  • It occurs when moon is near the horizon and human eyes compare it with surrounding trees, buildings or other objects.

Equinox is the time of the year when the Sun is exactly above the Equator and day & night is of equal length.

It is the day of the year with longest period of day-light.
