Cryodrakon boreas, the largest flying animalDate: 12 September 2019 Tags: Biodiversity
Paleontologists have identified a new species of flying dinosauras, named it Cryodrakon boreas, and declared that it could be one of the largest flying animals.
Scientists had uncovered remains of a flying reptile some time ago.The remains included a skeleton consisting of parts of the wings, legs, neck and a rib.
The reptile lived over 77 million years ago in what is western Canada today. Its remains were discovered 30 years ago from the Dinosaur Park Formation located in Alberta.
The paleontologists had assumed that it belonged to an already known species of pterosaur called Quetzalcoatlus.
The new study by researchers has concluded that the remains belong to a new species, which is also the first pterosaur to be discovered in Canada.
Despite their large size and wide distribution across North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe , only little remains of Pterosaurs have been unearthed, making the new find especially important.
