US President Joe Biden has ordered for a detailed inquiry into the alleged leak theory of origination of SARS CoV virus.
Many reports from independent journalists and experts have claimed that virus was created in a lab in Wuhan, which later escaped and caused the pandemic.
US intelligence officials have been divided over the origin of the virus. Some claim that it was naturally transmitted from animals to humans whereas others believe in lab leak theory.
For a long time, the lab leak theory was dismissed as a right wing and racist conspiracy theory peddled by former President Trump and his supporters.
The lab leak theory was given serious thoughts after an alleged leaked scientific paper that claimed that China aimed at using Coronavirus as a biological weapon.
Facts for new theory
Scientists working at Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) had fallen ill due to a mysterious illness that occurred before any official declaration of the first case.
The SARS CoV-2 resembles the RaTG13 bat coronavirus that was isolated from a mine in Yunnan and is currently being experimented upon.
The Wuhan lab had previously indulged in experimenting coronavirus on animals as part of trials undertaken by PLA.
The WHO report had failed to arrive at a conclusion and it was being assumed that the organisation was being soft on China.
China has criticised the move as politically motivated that aims at harming its reputation. It has instead blamed Fort Detrick army base in US for the leak.
India has not opposed the move but has sought for a detailed study to ascertain the origin and requested all countries to cooperate in the enquiry.
