RBI to issue new Rs. 20 currency note

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it will soon issue new Rs. 20 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. The new Rs. 20 note is greenish-yellow in colour. It will bear signature of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. RBI also has clarified that all earlier banknotes in denomination of Rs. 20 issued by it in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender.

Features of new Rs. 20 note

  • It will have motif of Ellora Caves on reverse, depicting country's cultural heritage. Its base colour of the note is Greenish Yellow.
  • Its dimension is 63 mm x 129 mm. Its designs, geometric patterns are aligned with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse (front) and reverse (back).

Observer side (Front) of note

  • It contains see-through register with denominational numeral 100. It also contains latent image with numeral and also Devanagari version of the same.
  • It also contains portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at centre, with micro letters ''RBI'', ''Bharat'', ''India'' and ''20'', along with guarantee clause, Governor''s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards right of Gandhiji's portrait.
  • On the right side of portrait is Ashoka Pillar emblem and electrotype (20) watermarks. Besides, number panel with numerals growing from small to big appears on top left side and bottom right side.

Reverse Side (Back)

  • It carries year of printing on the left and also Swachh Bharat logo with the slogan.
  • It also contains language panel similar to other currency notes (having total 15 languages viz. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu).
