The foundation stone for Puri heritage corridor will be laid by the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik.

The idea of the corridor was first conceived in 2016 and will be developed at the cost of Rs 800 crore.

  • The main aim of the corridor is to transform the holy town of Puri into an international place of heritage.

  • There are 22 different projects involved in the development. They will be taken up in a phased manner.

The main reason for modification is redeveloping major portions of the holy town and in the vicinity of the temple for visitors and tourists.

Important projects involved

  • Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) building redevelopment

  • Jagannath cultural centre

  • Srimandir reception centre

  • Badadanda heritage streetscape

  • Jagannath Ballav pilgrim centre

  • Municipal market development

  • Multilevel car parking

  • Swargadwar development

  • Gurukulam

  • Beachfront development

  • Puri lake

  • Musa river revival plan

  • The pandemic and the incidents following it were a major roadblock in development of the project.

  • The National Monument Authority (NMA) brought out new laws to prevent development in the immediate vicinity of the temple premise.
