Government launches Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offence

Union Government has launched Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) as part of women safety initiatives. It is joint initiative of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Women and Child Development. ITSSO is one of measures formulated under multi-pronged action developed by MHA towards smart policing to enhance women safety in the country.

Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO)

  • It is online module available to law enforcement agencies at all levels- national, state, district and police station level to undertake real-time monitoring and management of cases of rape to be able to complete the investigation in two months.
  • It leverages existing Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) which is nationwide network enabling sharing of information between 15000 Police Stations, State officers and security agencies.
  • It will greatly strengthen states’ ability for analytics and prognosis for timely investigation and prosecution in rape cases.
  • It will help in effective implementation of Criminal Law Amendment Act, 2018 which mandates completion of investigation and trials in rape cases within 2 months.
  • This law prescribes stringent penal provisions including death penalty for rape of a girl below age of 12 years.
