Yuvika 2019: ISRO inaugurates Young Scientist Programme

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr K Sivan inaugurated Young Scientist Programme (Yuvika-2019) at ISRO Headquarters Bengaluru, Karnataka. In all 110 students from every State and Union Territories are participating in two week residential training programme.

It will be conducted at four centres/units of ISRO/Department of Space (DOS). They are Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad; Thiruvananthapuram; U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru and North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Shillong. The participants will also be visiting Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Shriharikota, the spaceport of India.

Young Scientist Programme (Yuvika-2019)

  • It aims to impart basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to students with view to arousing interest in emerging areas of space activities.
  • Under it ISRO will be conducting “Catch them young” residential training programme of around two weeks duration during summer holidays for selected children.
  • Eminent scientists will deliver talks and share their experiences with the students, who will get hands on training at the space labs
  • Diverse topics ranging from environment science, astronomy, rocket engineering, renewable energy, space applications and soft skill improvement modules such as team work, communication and leadership are part of this programme’s curriculum.
  • Selection process: Three students from each State/UT, covering CBSE, ICSE and State syllabus will be selected for this. The selection will be based on academic performance and extracurricular activities. Students from rural area will be given special weightage.  Students who have finished 8th standard and currently studying in 9th standard.
