Issue

A study has shown that the symptoms of a rare disease known as paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS-TS) vanish after six months.

Background

The paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS-TS) is associated with SARS CoV-2 infection and affects children.

Details

  • The children diagnosed with Covid-19 showed the paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS-TS) and were able to recover within six months.

  • Paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS-TS) is an inflammatory syndrome that affects multiple parts of the body.

  • There is still no clear reason for emergence of the condition but it is suspected to be caused by immune overreaction.

  • It usually starts after 4-6 weeks of contacting mild or asymptomatic form of covid-19 infection.

Symptoms

The symptoms of the disease include fever, eye infection, rashes and gastrointestinal infections such as nausea, stomach ache and diarrhoea. Severe bouts can lead to multi-organ failure and death.

Results of study

The end analysis showed that children affected by the condition were able to recover. The neurological effects were mild and did not cause disability.
