Date: 08 November 2020 Tags: Miscellaneous

New research has found that tinnitus is being enhanced by Covid-19  and also by the measures against the infection.

Covid-19 has effects on variety of diseases and problems that is threatening to individuals with co-morbidities.

  • The study found that 40% of those displaying symptoms of Covid-19 simultaneously experience a worsening of their tinnitus.

  • Although the study focused on people with pre-existing tinnitus, a small number of participants also reported that their condition was initially triggered by developing Covid-19 symptoms. This suggests that tinnitus could be a Covid symptom in some cases.

  • The new study also found that a large proportion of people believe their tinnitus is being made worse by social distancing measures.

  • Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 15 to 20 percent of people.

  • Tinnitus isn't a condition itself rather it's a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a circulatory system disorder.

  • Poor treatment of tinnitus in the early stages often leads to much worse cases and severe tinnitus can have a huge impact on mental health.
