PSUs pledge fund for Badrinath Dham

The public sector Oil Marketing Companies have decided to donate Rs 100 crore for development of Badrinath Dham for converting it as a spiritual smart city.



The PSUs are directing their funds under Corporate Social Responsibility towards this project. It has however raised several questions.



  • Officials have said that plans for contributing towards the development of Badrinath Dham were in place even before Covid-19 pandemic.

  • The Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will give Rs 20 crore and Rs 5.5 crore respectively while Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), GAIL, and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd will give Rs 25 crore each.


PSUs contributions during pandemic

  • The oil sector PSUs have contributed a total of Rs 800 crore towards the PM CRES funds to combat the Coviod-19 pandemic.

  • They are also participating in efforts to increase supply of oxygen to some of the worst affected areas of India.

  • These PSUs are at the forefront of producing and supplying medical grade oxygen as well as importing them from outside.
