The seventh edition of India’s premier global affairs conference, the Raisina dialogue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi.

 

Background

The Raisina Dialogue has been modeled on the Shangri-La dialogue of Singapore.

 

Details

  • The Raisina Dialogue is a joint venture between independent think tank Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India.

  • The dialogue has gained significance in the backdrop of many foreign dignitaries visiting India following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

 

The dialogue

  • The event takes its name from Raisina Hill, the seat of Government of India. It is held annually as a conference on geopolitics and geo-economics addressing global issues.

  • It has emerged as a leading global conference that features many head of states, ministers, academicians, experts and researchers.

 

The 2022 edition of the dialogue

  • This is for the first time in two years that the dialogue is being held in person. The theme is “Terranova: Impassioned, Impatient, and Imperilled”.

  • The chief guest of the Raisina Dialogue this year is President of European Union Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

  • The major participants are former Prime Minister of Canada, former Prime Minister of Australia, former President of Maldives and former Swedish Prime Minister.

  • Water Caucuses: Turbulent Tides in the Indo-Pacific

Previous editions

  • The first edition was held in 2016 and the theme was: “Asia” Regional and Global Connectivity”.

  • The theme of second edition held in 2017 was “The New Normal: Multilateralism and Multipolarity”.

  • “Managing Disruptive Transition: ideas, Institution and Idioms” was the theme for the third edition held in 2018.

  • The theme of the 2019 edition was “New Geometrics, Fluid Partnerships, Uncertain Outcomes.” 

  • The edition of 2020 was held with the theme “Navigating the Alpha Centuries”.

  • The theme for the 2021 Edition was “ViralWorld: Outbreaks, Outliers and Out of Control”
