President Kovind’s three nation tour

President Ram Nath Kovind on September 8 night left for a visit to Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia during which he will hold talks with the top leadership of those countries to strengthen bilateral ties.



At the backdrop of Kashmir issue, India is trying to gain international support for its decision to scrap special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The visit to European nations is important to boost India’s case.



  • President Kovind will first visit Iceland and will hold talks with Iceland President and Iceland Prime minister.  

  • The President's next stop will Switzerland from September 11-15 where he will meet President of Switzerland and members of the Swiss cabinet.   

  • On the final leg of his visit, the President will arrive in Slovenia on September and will hold extensive discussions with Slovenian President and Slovenian Prime Minister. 

  • The President will also participate in a business forum event and an Indian community reception.


India-Iceland relations

  • India and Iceland have signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement to strengthen the ties of economic cooperation

  • The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for co-operation in the renewable energy sector.

  • The Indo-Iceland business is estimated to be US $26.7 million according to data in 2007.

India-Switzerland relations

India switzerland relations range from trade, development cooperation, education and vocational training, visas, migration, air traffic, investment, finance, taxation and scientific and technological cooperation.


India- Slovenia relations

  • The bilateral trade between India and slovenia is estimated to be EUR 361.25 million.

  • The main Indian exports include pharmaceutical products, organic chemicals, mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation, coffee, tea and spices, machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical machinery.

  • The exports are articles of paper pulp, aircraft, wood organic chemicals, iron and steel etc.
