Issue

The Archaelogical Survey of India(ASI) is planning to declare the Rangdum monastery, located in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir, a monument of national importance.

 

Background

 The centre is looking at bringing more monuments under protection in order to boost tourism in the region , after its decision to split Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories  J&K and Ladakh.

Rangdum Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery belonging to the Gelugpa sect, located in the Suru Valley, in Ladakh.
