International Day against Child Labour: June 12

Date: 12 June 2019 Tags: Days & Dates

The International Day Against Child Labour is observed every year on 12 June to raise awareness against child labour. The theme for this year was "Children should not work in fields but on dreams". This year also marks 20 years since adoption of the ILO's Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No. 182).

International Labour Organization (ILO) was launched in 2002 by International Labour Organization (ILO) to focus attention on global extent of child labour and action and efforts needed to eliminate it. Objective of this day is to bring together governments, employers and workers organizations, civil society as well as millions of people around the world to highlight the plight of child labourers and what can be done to help them.

Target 8.7 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):  It calls on global community to take measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking. It also calls to secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms.
