Legendary Jockey Lester Piggott passes away

  • Legendary flat race jockey Lester Piggott who rode a record nine Epsom Derby winners has died aged 86.
  • Piggott is widely regarded as one of the greatest jockeys in the sport’s history, and had been previously admitted to intensive care in 2007 due to a heart problem.
  • The 11-time British champion jockey rode 16 Irish classic winners at the track largely due to his partnership with trainer Vincent O’Brien.

Popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala killed

  • Congress leader and popular Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead near Mansa. He was 29.
  • The Punjab Police had ordered the withdrawal or pruning of security for 424 persons, including MLAs, religious leaders, dera heads and retired police officers.
  • Moosewala was the voice of many superhit songs over the last few years. He had contested the Assembly polls on a Congress ticket from Mansa, losing to AAP’s Dr Vijay Singla.

ShreyaLenka becomes first K-pop star from India

  • Shreya Lenka has become the first-ever Indian to become a professional K-pop artiste. The 18-year-old from Odisha is now a part of popular South Korean girl group Blackswan.
  • Lenka was selected for the band after participating in the six-month-long global auditions, that were announced by DR Music last year.
  • Apart from Lenka, Brazil’s 19-year-old Gabriela Dalcin was named as the sixth member of the group.
