Dr Rajendra Joshi awarded Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award

  • Swiss-based NRI scientist Dr Rajendra Joshi was awarded with Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award.
  • He was honoured for his outstanding achievement in the field of Science and in recognition of his valuable contribution in promoting prestige and honour of India and in fostering interests of overseas Indians.
  • Dr Joshi through his Rajendra and Ursula Joshi Group (RUJ) group has committed investments in excess of Rs 1000 crore in the areas including healthcare, education and skill development and Swiss precision technology in India.

Justice (Retd) DK Jain appointed as ad-hoc Ethics Officer of BCCI

  • Justice (Retd.) DK Jain, who is newly appointed ombudsman for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was also be appointed as its ad-hoc Ethics Officer.
  • As Ethics Officer, he will look into matters of conflict of interest involving players, coaches and officials.
  • He has been appointed as per Rule 39(1) of the new BCCI Constitution which states, that Ethics Officer will be appointed by BCCI at its Annual General Meeting for purpose of guidance and resolution in instances of conflict of interest.
  • Ethics Officer will be retired Judge of High Court. His/Her term will be one year, subject to maximum of three terms in office.

Tashigang in Himachal Pradesh becomes world’s highest polling station

  • Tashigang village in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh situated at altitude of 15,256 feet has become highest polling station in the world.
  • It is situated about 29 km from India-China border. It covers two villages, Tashigang and Gate, which fall Mandi Lok Sabha seat, the second largest constituency in India.
  • As per the revised electoral rolls, the two villages of this polling station have 48 voters, of which 30 are men and 18 women.

Adani: 1st Indian port operator to Record 200 MMT cargo movement

  • Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) claimed that it recorded cargo movement of more than 200 million metric tonnes (MMT) at nine ports along the east and west coasts.
  • This makes it first Indian port operator to achieve 200 MMT milestone. SPSEZ was established in 2001 and has become one of largest port operators in the world.

GI tag accorded to 5 varieties of Indian coffee

  • Geographical Indication Registry of India under Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently awarded Geographical Indication (GI) to five varieties of Indian coffee.
  • They are: Coorg Arabica coffee, Wayanaad Robusta coffee, Chikmagalur Arabica coffee, Araku Valley Arabica coffee, Bababudangiris Arabica coffee.
