New Allosaurus species in North America

  • Palaeontologists have discovered a new species of a meat-eating dinosaur, called Allosaurus jimmadseni.
  • It is the oldest species of Allosaurus, to have existed in the Late Jurassic Period, some 157-152 million years ago.
  • The allosauroids were carnivorous bipedal dinosaurs that existed through the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

Astronauts bake chocolate cookies in space

  • Astronauts have baked chocolate cookies in a special oven designed to work in zero-gravity at the International Space Station (ISS).
  • Separate batches of five such chocolate chips were prepared by two astronauts as a part of an experiment.
  • The experiment was aimed at the various cooking options on offer for astronauts who go on long space voyages.
  • The cookie samples would undergo additional testing by food science professionals to determine the final results of the experiments.
  • On the basis of the test, it would be decided if the cookies are safe to eat during space expeditions.

New mission to capture poles of the Sun

  • A new spacecraft is journeying to the Sun to snap the first pictures of the Sun's north and south poles.
  • Solar Orbiter, a collaboration between the European Space Agency, or ESA, and NASA, will have its first opportunity to capture the poles.
  • The orbiter will be launched on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, the spacecraft will use Venus's and Earth's gravity to swing itself out of the ecliptic plane.

Sachin Bansal resigns from Ujjivan Small Finance board

  • Sachin Bansal has resigned as an independent director of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank. 
  • He said he was resigning from Ujjivan Small Finance Bank's board in the interest of propriety and corporate governance as an entity owned and controlled by him has made an application to the Reserve Bank of India for a universal banking license.
  • Bansal founded Navi Technologies after moving out of Flipkart in May 2018, following the e-commerce major’s takeover by global retailing giant Walmart. 

Government offers 100% stake in Air India

  • The government has announced sale of 100 per cent stake in debt-laden Air India as it issued the preliminary bid document for the strategic disinvestment.
  • As part of the strategic disinvestment, Air India would also sell 100 per cent stake in low-cost airline Air India Express and 50 per cent shareholding in joint venture AISATS.
  • Management control of the airline would also be transferred to the successful bidder.This is the second time in less than two years that the government has come out with proposal for selling stake in Air India.
