Moeen Ali retires from Test cricket

  • England all-rounder Moeen Ali announced his retirement from Test cricket to prolong his career in the white-ball formats.
  • Moeen had already informed captain Joe Root and head coach Chris Silverwood of his decision.
  • The 34-year-old has scored 2,914 runs in 64 Tests at an average of 28.29 with five centuries and picked up 195 wickets with his off-spin bowling at an average of 36.66.

India’s Mars probe mission completes 7 years

  • India’s Mars Orbiter spacecraft has completed seven years in its orbit, well beyond its designed mission life of six months.
  • MOM is the maiden interplanetary mission of ISRO. Launched on November 5, 2013, the probe was successfully inserted into Martian orbit on September 24, 2014 in its first attempt.
  • MOM is primarily a technology demonstration venture and all the mission objectives were successfully met, according to officials of Bengaluru-headquartered India’s national space agency.

China declares all cryptocurrency transactions illegal

  • China’s central bank said all financial transactions involving cryptocurrencies are illegal, sounding the death knell for the digital trade in China after a crackdown on the volatile currencies.
  • The global values of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin have massively fluctuated over the past year partly due to Chinese regulations, which have sought to prevent speculation and money laundering.
  • The notice bans all related financial activities involving cryptocurrencies, such as trading crypto, selling tokens, transactions involving virtual currency derivatives and “illegal fundraising”.

CJI lends voice to 50% reservation for women in judiciary

  • CJI Ramana has asked women judicial officers to demand for 50% of reservation in judiciary. Only about 30 per cent of the lower judiciary, 11.5 per cent of the High Courts, and 12 per cent of the Supreme Court have women judges.
  • Of India’s 1.7 million advocates, only 15 per cent are women, they make up only 2 per cent of the elected representatives in the State Bar Councils.
  • The CJI spoke about the difficulties women face while entering the legal profession, including gender stereotypes that force them to bear the responsibilities of the family.

PM Modi launches Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission

  • Prime Minister Narendra will launch the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission via video conferencing.
  • The pilot project of National Digital Health Mission had been announced by the prime minister from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2020.
  • Currently, the Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM) is being implemented in pilot phase in six Union Territories.
  • PM-DHM will create a seamless online platform through the provision of a wide-range of data, information and infrastructure services, duly leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems while ensuring the security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information.
