Gazprom demands gas payments from India in Euros

  • Gazprom has asked India’s largest gas transmitter GAIL (India) to pay for gas imports in euros instead of dollars.
  • European countries and the United States have imposed heavy sanctions on Russia since Moscow sent troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24.
  • GAIL has a long-term gas import deal with Gazprom Marketing & Trading Singapore to annually buy 2.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas and has been settling trade with Gazprom in dollars.

Anil Ambani resigns as director of Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure

  • Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani resigned as director of Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure, following markets regulator SEBI order.
  • Sebi in February barred Reliance Home Finance Ltd, industrialist Anil Ambani and three other individuals from the securities market for allegedly siphoning off funds from the company.
  • The matter relates to irregularities in the general-purpose corporate loan to the tune of ?8,470.65 crore extended by RHFL to connected entities.

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins dies

  • Taylor Hawkins, the longtime drummer for rock band Foo Fighters, has died at the age of 50.
  • He played on their eight studio albums since, beginning with There Is Nothing Left To Lose in 1999.
  • Hawkins-assisted hits include Learn to Fly, Times Like These, The Pretender, All My Life and Best of You, and beginning with 2002’s One By One, all of Foo Fighters albums since have hit the US and UK Top Three.

Houthi rebels attack Jeddah in Saudi Arabia

  • Yemen's Houthis attacked a Saudi Aramco oil facility in Jeddah as part of a wave of drone and missile assaults.
  • The attacks came as Saudi Arabia still leads a coalition battling the Iran-backed Houthis, who seized Yemen’s capital of Sanaa in September 2014
  • The kingdom, which entered the war in Yemen in 2015, has been internationally criticised for its airstrikes killing that have killed scores of civilians.

  • Russian climate envoy Anatoly Chubais has stepped down and left the country, citing his opposition to President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
  • Chubais is one of the few 1990s-era economic reformers who’d remained in Putin’s government and had maintained close ties with Western officials.
  • Under Putin, Chubais took top jobs at big state companies until the president named him envoy for sustainable development last year.
