Vijayawada railway station accorded Green Rating

  • Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) awarded the Gold Rating to Vijayawada railway station under Green Railway Stations Rating System for its green measures under taken by it.
  • Vijayawada railway station earlier was ranked fourth in Indian Railways for cleanliness among A-1 category stations.
  • It has 10% LED lighting, five star rated fans, pumps, and motors and solar water heating systems.
  • Green Railway Stations Rating System: It has been developed by IGBC with help of Environment Directorate of Indian Railways.
  • It seeks to encourage railway stations across the country to adopt more eco-friendly ways.
  • It also aims to reduce adverse effects of operation of the railways to environment and make experience of the journey better for the passengers.
  • It helps railway stations to adopt green concepts, which in turn minimizes adverse environmental impact due to station operation and maintenance.

IIT-Delhi develops AI based Neuromorphic system to detect various diseases

  • The researchers at IIT-Delhi have designed and developed Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based low-power electronic hardware system to detect various diseases.
  • It can detect diseases such as Tuberculosis (TB), Malaria, Intestinal parasite and Cervical cancer in few milliseconds.
  • It is intelligent Neuromorphic system that can be used for healthcare access in resource-constrained areas with limited access to human specialists.
  • It is portable, consumes low-power and can classify diseases with high accuracy in detection.
  • It can be deployed in rural and resource-constrained areas and improve access to diagnostic health-care.

Renowned folk artist Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi passes away

  • Eminent folk artist, radio commentator, harmonium player, music composer and author Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi passed away in US. She was 99.
  • She was best known for using music as a tool to spread message of social equality in the days when society considered women coming out of their homes as a taboo.
  • She was born in 1920 in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. She had actively participated in Indian freedom struggle and represented her talent in front of freedom fighters such as Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • She had composed and sung famous patriotic song “Jaya Jaya Jaya Priya Bharathi” written by her uncle Devulapally Krishna Shastry.
  • She recently had published her two books Compilation of Folk Songs and Bava Geetalu.
  • She was honoured with Doctorate by Andhra University in 1977. She was awarded “Queen of Folk” award and lifetime achievement award in America.

Renowned Malayalam writer Ashitha passes away

  • Renowned Malayalam writer Ashitha passed away in Thrissur, Kerala. She was 63. She was born at Pazhayannur in Thrissur on April 5, 1956
  • She has contributed in popularising haiku poems in Malayalam through her translations and her stories were known for the sensitive portrayal of life
  • Through her touching stories and poems, she has portrayed inner pangs and feelings of women.
  • Her notable works are 'Oru Streeyum Parayathath', 'Mazhameghangal', 'Vismaya Chhihnangal,' 'Ashithayude Kathakal' and 'Apoorna Viramangal.

MA Hampiholi appointed as Director General Naval Operations

  • Government has appointed Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi as Director General Naval Operations (DGNO). He will succeed Satish Namdeo Ghormade.
  • He was commissioned inExecutive Branch of the Indian Navy in July 1985. He has experience as Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). He has served onboard of INShips Himgiri, Agray,and Ganga.
  • He also has served as Commanding officer in INS Talwar (stealth Frigate), INS Nashak (missile vessel), INS Magar Landing Ship Tank (Large).
  • He also has commanded National Coast Guard, Mauritius for two years (2003–05) and served as Commanding Officer of INS Mandovi.
  • He is recipient of the Nao Sena Medal (2011) and Athi Vishist Seva Medal (2019).
