Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate India’s biggest drone festival

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India's biggest drone festival in Delhi, 'Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022'.
  • The event will be attended by delegates comprising government officials, foreign diplomats, armed forces, central armed police forces, PSUs, private companies and drone startups.
  • The festival will witness virtual award of drone pilot certificates, product launches, panel discussions, flying demonstrations, display of a Made in India Drone Taxi prototype.

Twitter to pay $150 Mn penalty over users’ privacy

  • Twitter will pay a $150 million penalty and put in new safeguards to settle federal regulators’ allegations that the social platform failed to protect the privacy of users’ data over a six-year span.
  • The regulators allege Twitter violated a 2011 FTC order by deceiving users about how well it maintained and protected the privacy and security of their non-public contact information.
  • Twitter told users that it was collecting their phone numbers and email addresses for purposes of account security. But it failed to disclose that it also would use the information to enable companies to send targeted online ads.

Vinai Kumar Saxena takes oath as LG of Delhi

  • Vinai Kumar Saxena was sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.Saxena was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court VipinSanghi.
  • Saxena, the chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission, was appointed Delhi’s new Lieutenant Governor after Anil Baijal resigned from the position last week.
  • Saxena was appointed by the Union government as a member of the national committee to commemorate 75 years of India's independence.

Supreme Court recognises sex work as profession

  • The Supreme Court has issued an order recognising sex work as a “profession” whose practitioners are entitled to dignity and equal protection under law.
  • The Court has directed that police should neither interfere nor take criminal action against adult and consenting sex workers.
  • A child of a sex worker should not be separated from the mother merely on the ground that she is in the sex trade.

CaptAbhilasha Barak becomes first woman combat pilot

  • Thirty years after the country started inducting women as officers in the Indian Armed Forces, Captain Abhilasha Barak became the first woman combat aviator in the Indian Army.
  • The 26-year-old from Haryana has joined the Army Aviation Corps as a helicopter pilot after concluding a year-long course at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik, Maharashtra.
  • The Army Aviation Corps is a component of the Army that was formed in November 1986. The Corps is headed by a Lt Gen rank officer known as Director General of Army Aviation.
