Rock-cut cave from megalithic period discovered in Karnataka

  • A peculiar type of a rock-cut cave from the Megalithic period (800 BC to 500 BC) has been found at a government cashew plantation at Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kannada.
  • No grave articles were found inside the cave. But at its centre, an altar like pit has been noticed. Small pieces of red, black, and red pottery were found in small quantities in the cave.
  • Earlier, the south-west coast of Karnataka and Kerala had recorded a very special type of megaliths-like rock-cut caves, scooped out in the laterite earth.

Former chairman of Coffee Board passes away

  • MS Boje Gowda, former chairman of the Coffee Board of India, died after being attacked by honey bees at his coffee estate in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru.
  • Gowda served as chairman of the Coffee Board of India for two terms and was also active in politics.
  • He was a member of the Janata Party, later joined the Congress and switched over to the BJP. He had served as president of the Chikkamagaluru district unit of the saffron party.

Government scraps MP quota for KendriyaVidyalayaadmission

  • The government has scrapped the discretionary Member of Parliament (MP) quota for admissions to the KendriyaVidyalayas (KVs) and issued revised admission guidelines on Monday.
  • The move comes a week after the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) had put admissions under ‘special provisions’, including the MP quota, on hold till further orders.
  • Under KVS Special Dispensation Admission Scheme or MP quota, an MP in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha can recommend a maximum of 10 students from their respective constituencies every academic year for admission in classes 1 to 9.

World’s oldest person passes away

  • Japanese authorities announced the death of the woman Kane Tanaka, believed to have been the oldest living person in the world.
  • Born Jan. 2, 1903, in the Fukuoka Prefecture, Tanaka was confirmed by Guinness in 2019 as the oldest person on Earth at the age of 116 years.
  • The oldest currently living person is now said to be Lucile Randon, a 118-year-old French nun. Randon is also the oldest known survivor of COVID-19.

Elon Musk acquires Twitter

  • In one of the world’s biggest deals in the tech world, billionaire Elon Musk has taken control of Twitter.
  • The deal will see Musk acquire the social network for $44 billion with shares valued at $54.20. He is expected to take it private.
  • Musk has secured $25.5 billion of fully committed debt and margin loan financing and is providing an approximately $21.0 billion equity commitment.
