The railways is preparing for a long battle against COVID-19 by creating isolation wards in trains for rural and remote areas, and manufacturing of ventilators in its factories.
While the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala has been tasked with the duty of converting LHB coaches into isolation wards, the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, is attempting to manufacture ventilators.
The layout is being prepared and a decision will be taken as to how many patients can be accommodated in a coach keeping in mind various factors —distance, hygiene, necessary equipment to monitor health, and most importantly, exclusive bathroom usage.
Renowned chef Floyd Cardoz, who ran the successful 'Bombay Canteen', 'O Pedro' and 'Bombay Sweet Shop' in Mumbai and New York's 'Tabla', passed away due to complications from the coronavirus.
The co-founder of Hunger Inc. Hospitality, that runs the Mumbai restaurants, tested positive for Covid-19 in the USA on March 18, and was being treated in New Jersey. Cardoz had travelled from Mumbai to New York through Frankfurt, Germany.
