Harbhajan Singh retires from international cricket

  • Harbhajan Singh has announced his retirement from all formats International cricket. The famous off-spinner had a long cricketing career of 23 years.
  • Popularly known as Turbanator, he played in 103 Tests, 236 ODIs and 28 T20s for Team India in his career. He has been associated with Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders under the IPL tournament.
  • Harbhajan Singh was the first Indian cricketer to take a hat-trick in Test Cricket. Singh was also the part of Team India that won T20 World Cup in 2007 and ICC ODI World Cup

Indian Army inducts indigenously built AERVs

  • The first batch of next-generation Armoured Engineer Reconnaissance Vehicles (AERV), indigenously designed and developed by DRDO was formally inducted into the Indian Army by Chief of Army.
  • AERV is manufactured by BEL at Pune with more than 90% indigenous content. It is a versatile BMP-IIK amphibious Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) fitted with instruments for water reconnaissance, land reconnaissance, navigation and data backup.
  • AERVs can navigate terrain using Military Grid Co-ordinate System, measure and plot underwater beds and water currents of rivers or canals, store data from various instruments on Control Console for further analysis and decision-making.

Author Joan Didion passes away

  • Acclaimed American journalist and author Joan Didion passed away at the age of 87 due to Parkinson’s disease.
  • Didion was known for her moving essays, memoirs, novels, and screenplays, as well as for sharing her grief over the deaths of her husband and daughter.
  • Her works include essay collection ‘Slouching Towards Bethlehem’, the memoir ‘The Year of Magical Thinking’, and the screenplays for the films ‘Panic In Needle Park’ and ‘A Star Is Born’.

Karnataka passes anti-conversion bill

  • Karnataka Assembly adopted the anti conversion bill – The Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021, — through a voice vote at the ongoing Winter Session.
  • The Karnataka government has decided to follow in the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, which have enacted such laws.
  • The Bill states that marriage done with the sole purpose of unlawful conversion or vice versa shall be declared as null and void.
