Delhi may have higher average temperature by 2100

  • The national capital may have eight months a year with temperature averaging 32°C by 2100, up from six at present, a new study said.
  • According to the new 'EarthTime Visualisation' report released at the World Economic Forum's Sustainable Development Impact Summit, a record increase in temperature is expected in the U.S., India and across South Asia for longer periods of time.
  • Such a future can be avoided from playing out only by limiting the worst impact of climate change by decreasing emissions and working towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Saudi Arabia bans flights to and from India

  • Saudi Arabia has banned flights to and from India amid a surge in coronavirus cases, according to an official document.
  • The GACA circular– titled: ‘Suspension of travel to countries where the COVID-19 virus has outbreak’ – was marked to all the airlines and chartered flight companies operating at the Saudi Arabia’s airports.
  • India’s COVID-19 caseload has reached 56,46,010, and the death toll has climbed to 90,020 with 1,085 people succumbing to the disease in the past 24 hours.

DRDO tests laser guided anti-tank guided missile

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test-fired the indigenously-developed Laser-Guided Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) from the Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun.
  • The missile uses a warhead that has the capability to neutralise armoured vehicles which have reactive armours, which are specially-designed protective armours used in military vehicles.
  • Over the last three years, the DRDO has successfully conducted tests of Man Portable ATGM and also a ATGM system named Nag.
  • The indigenously developed low-weight, ‘fire and forget’ Man Portable Anti Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) in September last year. In February 2018, ATGM Nag was successfully tested in desert conditions.

Vicky Donor actor Bhupesh Kumar Pandya passes away

  • Actor Bhupesh Kumar Pandya, who was best-known for featuring in films like Vicky Donor and Parmanu, died of lung cancer.
  • Bhupesh Pandya, was a popular name in the theatre community. Besides that, he featured as Annu Kapoor's assistant named Chaman in the 2012 film Vicky Donor, which marked Ayushmann Khurrana's Bollywood debut.
  • He also starred in Hazaron Khwahishein Aisi, web series Delhi Crime. He also featured in Gandhi To Hitler and John Abraham's Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.

  • Union minister of state for railways and Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi, 65, passed away, days after he tested positive for Covid-19.
  • Angadi is the first Central minister to die of coronavirus. Angadi passed away at the AIIMS trauma centre, which has been converted into a dedicated Covid-19 facility.
  • Suresh Angadi was the fourth-term MP from Belagavi. At least six MLAs and three MPs have succumbed to Covid till now.
