Infosys hits $100 bn market capitalisation mark

  • Shares of Infosys Ltd hit a fresh record high, helping the stock cross $100 billion in market capitalisation – the fourth Indian company to have achieved milestone.
  • Shares hit a new record high of Rs1,755.60 apiece on the BSE, pushing the market cap to Rs7.44 trillion, or $100 billion.
  • Reliance Industries Ltd has a mcap of $140 billion, followed by Tata Consultancy Services Ltd at $115 billion, and HDFC Bank at $100.1 billion.
  • Infosys has among the fastest growing companies in India, having witnessed broad-based traction in cloud, customer experience, cyber security, among others.
  • The company has winning market share and investments in customer experience and cyber security have helped it increase the total addressable market and target a bigger chunk of a client’s IT budget.

Moplah revolt participants removed from Freedom Fighters list

  • Leaders of the Malabar Rebellion are set to be removed from the ‘Dictionary of Martyrs of India’s Freedom Struggle’, jointly published by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).
  • The decision came after review of a three member panel, which reportedly stated that the Malabar Rebellion was not an independence struggle but focused on ‘religious conversion’.
  • The Malabar Rebellion, also known as Moplah Rebellion or Mappila Rebellion, which took place in 1921 has been acknowledged as a freedom struggle against the British by the Kerala government.

First smog tower inaugurated in Delhi

  • Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the “country’s first smog tower” at Connaught Place in Delhi, one of the most polluted cities in the world.
  • The smog tower has 40 fans and 5,000 filters developed by experts at the University of Minnesota, which also helped design a 100-metre-high smog tower in Xian, China.
  • The 24-metre-high smog tower at Connaught Place, one of the biggest commercial centres in the capital, is based on a downdraft air-flow model.
  • Its 40 huge fans will suck air from the top of a special type of canopy structure and release clean air filtered through novel geometry filters.

National Monetisation Plan launched by FM Nirmala Sitharaman

  • Union government announced that it will monetise assets worth Rs 6,00,000 crore between 2021-22 and 2024-25 under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) scheme.
  • The assets being given out under the National Monetisation Pipeline will still be owned by the government, and will be returned to the government after a period of time.
  • She added that the pipeline will only include brownfield assets owned by the government and will not include land assets of the government.

Tim David becomes first Singapore player to participate in IPL

  • The second phase of the 14th edition of IPL will feature Tim David, a Singapore cricketer for the first time as Royal Challengers Bangalore player.
  • Australian David has played all over the globe including in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Big Bash League (BBL).
  • Since ICC accorded T20 International status to all its 106 member nations, David has played 14 T20 Internationals for Singapore.
