Shaheen Bagh protest site cleared

  • Nearly 100 days after people began their protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Shaheen Bagh, Delhi Police have got the protest site cleared.
  • Police officials have said that the step was taken amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Police took action against unlawful assembly and detained six persons, including women. The structures at the protest site were being removed.

Private labs can conduct COVID-19 test

  • The Central government will roll out its plan to permit private diagnostic laboratories to conduct COVID-19 tests.
  • The officials said the private labs will be guided by the testing protocols and criteria fixed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
  • The government has also fixed the prices of masks and sanitizers under the Essential Commodities Act to avoid overpricing of these products.

TRIFED launches‘Tech forTribals' program

  • A program to transform 5 crore Tribal Entrepreneurs under the name “Tech for Tribal” has been launched by TRIFED.
  • It was launched by TRIFED and IIT-Kanpur along with IIT-Roorkee, IIM Indore, Kalinga Institute of Social Science, Bhubaneshwar and SRIJAN, Jaipurin the first phase of organising tribal entrepreneurship and skill development program.
  • The scheme aims at capacity building and imparting entrepreneurship skills totribal forest produce gatherers enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri VanDhan Yojana(PMVDY).

Omar Abdullah released from detention

  • The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah was released after nearly eight months in detention in Kashmir.
  • He was detained along with hundreds of politicians in August, when the centre decided to end special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two union territories.
  • The Supreme Court had last week, on Omar Abdullah's sister's petition for his immediate release, asked the centre to respond by this week whether it planned to free him.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan takes oath as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh

  • The BJP's Shivraj Singh Chouhan was sworn in as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, days after the Congress government of Kamal Nath fell after losing its majority.
  • Shivraj Singh Chouhan took oath for the fourth time as Chief Minister.
  • Kamal Nath had resigned just before the Supreme Court's deadline to prove his majority in a trust vote.
  • The Congress lost its majority after 22 MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia took a flight to Bengaluru and resigned.
