Air pollution can trigger Alzheimer’s in Old women

  • A new research has revealed that Women in their 70s and 80s who were exposed to higher levels of air pollution experienced greater declines in memory and more Alzheimer's-like brain.
  • Previous research has suggested that fine particle pollution exposure increases the risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Scientists haven't known whether PM2.5 alters brain structure and accelerates memory decline.
  • This study provides another piece of the Alzheimer's disease puzzle by identifying some of the brain changes linking air pollution and memory decline.

Curiosity rover finds mysterious oxygen level spike on Mars

  • The curiosity rover stationed near Gale crater on Mars has discovered alterations in oxygen level over a period of time.
  • During the Martian spring and summer, Mars’ oxygen levels spike an extra 400 parts per million, which is 30 per cent more than what is expected. Scientists are finding the reason behind this mysterious spike.
  • They are certain that it is not because of photosynthesis, due to lack of living organisms on the planet.

Mayank Pratap Singh set to become youngest judge

  • Mayank Pratap Singh from Jaipur has made history by cracking the Rajasthan judicial services 2018 exam at just 21 years of age, which is set to make him the youngest judge in the country.
  • The original age requirement for appearing in the judicial services exam was 23 years, which was reduced to 21 years by the Rajasthan High Court this year.

SPG (ammendment) bill to be presented in Lok Sabha

  • Lok Sabha will take up the proposed amendment to the Special Protection Group (SPG) Act next week, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has said.
  • Elite SPG commandos protect the Prime Minister and his/her immediate family, former Prime Ministers and their immediate family for a certain period depending on the threat perception.
  • The amendment will focus on restricting SPG protection to only the Prime Minister and not the VVIPs.

First ever Day and Night test match in India

  • India will play its first Day and Night test match at the Eden gardens on 22nd November against Bangladesh.
  • The Day and Night will feature the use of specially designed pink balls, that will be visible even in  artificial lighting.
  • India will become the 9th nation to play Day and Night cricket along with Bangladesh. The first Day and Night test was held between Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
