Artificial chameleon skin developed

Date: 23 August 2019 Tags: Nanotechnology
  • Researchers have developed artificial chameleon skin that changes its colour when exposed to light.
  • The material, developed by researchers from the University of Cambridge, is made up of tiny particles of gold-coated in a polymer shell, and then squeezed into micro droplets of water in oil.
  • When exposed to heat or light, the particles stick together, changing the colour of the material.
  • The material developed by researchers is only of a single layer and hence can change to a single colour. But multilayer can make the material dynamic and appear like real chameleon skin.
