Bangladesh Cricket players on strike

IRTC to compensate passengers for delay in Tejas express

  • The IRCTC will pay a compensation of ? 1.62 lakh to 950 passengers, a first in the history of Railways, after Tejas Express was behind schedule.
  • The IRCTC had announced that under its policy, an amount of ? 100 will be paid for over an hour’s delay and ? 250 for a delay of over two hours.
  • The Tejas express between Delhi and Lucknow is the first private train in the history of Indian railways, undertaken by its subsidiary IRTC.

Supreme court refuses to stay metro shed project

  • The Supreme Court (SC) has said it is not stopping the Metro shed project in Mumbai's Aarey Colony and has only put a stay on the felling of trees.
  • Authorities assured the bench that no further cutting of trees has taken place in Aarey colony and added that complete status quo is being maintained.
  • Large number of public had come forward and petitioned the Supreme court to provide stay on cutting trees, carried out for constructing  metro shed for Mumbai metro project.

Red alert issued in Kerala

  • A red alert has been issued in 7 districts of Kerala by the authorities for heavy rainfall owing to North East monsoon.
  • The red alert is a call to immediately take preventive steps to evacuate people from vulnerable areas to shelter camps and provide others with emergency kits.
  • The Meteorological department has also given warning of heavy rainfall in districts adjoining Arabian sea coast as well as Bay of Bengal coast.
