Bhuvan Jai becomes youngest from AP to climb Mt Elbrus

  • Eight-year-old GandhamBhuvan Jai hailing from Kurnool scaled Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe.
  • Mount Elbrus is the highest peak in Europe, and one of the Seven Summits. Located in the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the peak rises 18,510 feet from sea level.
  • The Elbrus has two summits, both of which are dormant volcanic domes. The taller, western summit is 5,642 metres (18,510 ft); the eastern summit is 5,621 metres (18,442 ft).

Raja Rithvik becomes India’s 70th Grandmaster

  • R Raja Rithvik has become India’s 70th and latest chess Grandmaster, achieving his third and final norm at a recent event in Hungary.
  • After gaining the second norm in the Skalica Open, the Indian won the third norm in the First Saturday GM tournament to fulfil the GM title requirements.
  • He touched the magical 2500 Elo mark in the fourth round of the tournament after beating Vaclav Finek. Pune’s Harshit Raja had become India’s 69th GM last month.

Government plans 12-digit unique ID for easy access to schemes

  • The Centre is planning to generate 12-digit unique IDs for farmers to allow them easy and seamless access to farm-related schemes.
  • The database will collate data from existing farmer schemes such as PM-Kisan, Soil Health Card and PM FasalBimaYojana and link them with land records. Aadhaar will also be used as a deduplication mechanism.
  • The database for 11 states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh has been developed by the government. The remaining states, including Telangana, Kerala and Punjab, will be completed within a few months.

CIA officer experiences Havana syndrome in India

  • A member of CIA director Bill Burns’ delegation reported symptoms consistent with the mysterious Havana syndrome during his visit to India this month.
  • There is very little information about the Havana syndrome, a mysterious illness that has afflicted American spies and diplomats and was first reported in Cuba in late 2016.
  • The incident in New Delhi was the second time in less than a month that cases of Havana syndrome have affected foreign trips by top US administration officials.

Justin Trudeau wins third term

  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is poised to win a third term in a snap election but fall short of regaining the parliamentary majority he was seeking.
  • CTV News and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. projected his governing Liberal Party will win a plurality of seats and form a minority government.
  • The Liberal victory is a historic milestone for Trudeau, marking only the eighth time a Canadian leader has won three successive elections.
  • Failure to secure a majority is a disappointing result for the Liberals. It’s the second time voters have denied this prime minister full control of the legislature, limiting his freedom to take big risks or govern unilaterally.
