Kerala to have women drivers in government offices

  • Kerala government has decided to appoint women drivers in government and other public sector offices. This will be the first such appointment in India.
  • The move is aimed at ensuring gender equality in all walks of society. The existing rules will be amended to facilitate changes in appointment.

Amazon launches its largest campus in India

  • US based e-commerce giant Amazon has inaugurated its largest campus in India at Hyderabad.
  • The campus is spread over an area of 9.5 acres and will house 15,000 employees on the campus at a time. The campus will be the largest outside the US.

Manipur launches School Fagadaba scheme

  • Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday launched a scheme to improve the infrastructure of government schools in the state.
  • The scheme called ' school Fagadaba' ( Make education better)objective is to ensure better infrastructure, quality education and overall improvement of government schools to make them model schools.
  • Biometrics would be installed to check regular attendance of teachers. In the first phase one school from each of the 60 assembly seats in the state will be selected.

Rajiv Gauba appointed cabinet secretary

  • Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba has been appointed the cabinet secretary for a period of 2 years.
  • He is an IAS officer of the batch of 1982 belonging to Jharkhand cadre. He will replace incumbent PK Sinha.
  • He has previously served as secretary in union Urban development ministry, Additional secretary in Home Ministry, looking after Left wing extremism division.

P. Chidambaram arrested in INX media case

  • Former Finance and Home minister P. Chidambaram has been arrested by CBI in INX media case.
  • He has been accused of taking bribes to alter government policies in FDI.
  • The INX media  had obtained funds to the tune of 305 Rs. crores from foreign sources, more than the prescribed limit under FDI. This was facilitated by suddenchange in policy allegedly by then Finance minister Chidambaram.
