Versatile Odia actor Bijay Mohanty passes away

  • Veteran Odia actor Bijay Mohanty, who had been unwell for the past few months, passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 70.
  • Mohanty made his screen debut in the Odia film Chilika Teerey in 1977. He was an alumnus of the National School of Drama and a contemporary of late Bollywood actor Om Puri.
  • He had acted in a number of Odia films including 'Naga Phasa', 'Samay Bada Balaban', 'Danda Balunga', 'Sahari Bagha', 'Chaka Bhaunri' and 'Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi'.

UK’s covid vaccine prompts immune response in early tests

  • Scientists at Oxford University say their experimental coronavirus vaccine has been shown in an early trial to prompt a protective immune response in hundreds of people who got the shot.
  • In research published in the journal Lancet, scientists said that they found their experimental COVID-19 vaccine produced a dual immune response in people aged 18 to 55.
  • There’s increasing evidence that having a T-cell response as well as antibodies could be very important in controlling COVID-19.

Sri Lanka to research Ravana’s aerial routes

  • Sri Lanka’s aviation authority has said it will lead a research project to study the mythological character Ravana’s aviation routes.
  • In a recent newspaper advertisement in the local newspaper, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has sought any relevant documents and literature from the public.
  • It was a common legend in Sri Lanka that a brave king called Ravana used a flying machine called “Dandu monara” to fly not only within the country but also in the region.

Amudha appointed to joint secretary in PMO

  • P. Amudha, a 1994 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, has been brought to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Joint Secretary in a reshuffle.
  • She has been brought from the Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Academy of Administration, where she is serving as a professor.
  • Varsha Joshi, serving in the Delhi Government, has been brought in the Central administration as Joint Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying while her batchmate Keshav Chandra has been made the Director, Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Madhya Pradesh governor Lalji Tandon passes away

  • Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passed away in Lucknow. He was 85 and suffering from various conditions.
  • He was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Lucknow constituency in 2009, and later appointed the Governor of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Tandon was a member of the Uttar Pradesh State Legislature Council for two terms and a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly thrice. He has served as a Minister in the State’s government.
