  • BJP MLA Kailash Chandra Gahtori resigned from his Champawat seat, paving the way for Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to contest the Assembly bypoll from there.
  • Although the BJP won the recent Uttarakhand Assembly elections, CM Dhami himself could not win from his Khatima constituency.
  • Dhami needs to become a member of the State Assembly within six months to continue as Chief Minister.

Rohit Sharma and JaspritBumrah among 5 Wisden cricketer’s of the year

  • India’s captain Rohit Sharma and star pacer JaspritBumrah have been honoured by Wisden as two of their Five Cricketers Of The Year.
  • The two were named along with New Zealand opener Devon Conway, England pacer Ollie Robinson and South Africa Women captain Dane van Niekerk.
  • England skipper Joe Root was named Leading Cricketer in the World in the 2022 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.

Kieron Pollard retires from international cricket

  • West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard announced retirement from international cricket on April 20, 2022. This brought curtains down on his 15-year international career.
  • Pollard was appointed captain of both the ODI and T20 teams in 2019, with series wins over Australia and England the highlights during his tenure.
  • In total Pollard scored 2706 runs and took 55 wickets in ODI cricket. And in T20Is he racked up 1569 runs at a strike rate of 135.14, while also picking up 42 wickets with his handy medium pace.

  • The talks between PM Modi and Johnson are expected to further encourage the negotiations by the two sides for an ambitious free-trade agreement between them.

  • Actor Akshay Kumar has decided to pull out of his endorsement deal with VimalElaichi after receiving criticism for endorsing a pan masala brand.
  • The brand had recently roped him as a brand ambassador and features in ads along with actors Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn.
  • Last year, actor Amitabh Bachchan had taken a similar decision to pull out of an endorsement deal with Kamala Pasand.
