CBSE launches Shiksha Vani app

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched ‘Shiksha Vani’ new application named to publicize crucial information to students and parents in timely manner.
  • It will be used to send out major announcements made by CBSE and is expected to be the quickest way to information.
  • The first official circular on app was confirmed beginning of the evaluation process of the 2019 Board Examinations.
  • As a part of it, the app has already uploaded circular regarding evaluation procedure for 2019 CBSE Board Examinations.

Gauri Sawant becomes India's first transgender election ambassadors

  • Gauri Sawant becomes first transgender election ambassadors in India to be appointed by Election Commission of India (ECI).
  • She is one of the 12 election ambassadors from Maharashtra appointed by ECI for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
  • In her new role, she will help in more people from transgender community to get registered during final phase of voter’s enrollment. She will visit every transgender and inspire them about need for voting.
  • Following Supreme Court verdict, transgenders got right to vote for first time in 2014. Earlier in 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections there was no record of transgender voters.
  • In 2014, 918 voters were registered in this third category and number of transgender has doubled in five years to 2,086 at present.

US files largest patents under WIPO’s Patent Cooperation Treaty

  • United States has filed largest patents under in 2018 under World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
  • Regional basis: Asia’s surge continues and it shows a sign of innovation shifting from west to east as more than half of all international patent applications filed in 2018 were from Asia.
  • Top Countries: US (with 56,142 applications), China (53,345), Japan (49,702). Germany and South Korea were ranked fourth and fifth, with fewer than 20,000 applications each.
  • India’s patents applications jumped more than 27% - from 1,583 in 2017 up to 2,013. It registered largest innovation jump of any country last year. Patent
