Karnataka launches Pink Sarathi vehicles for women safety

  • Karnataka government has launched ‘Pink Sarathi’ vehicles for women’s safety by attending grievances of women passengers in city buses.
  • These vehicles have been procured by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) by using funds under Centre’s Nirbhaya scheme.
  • These vehicles fitted with GPS and public announcement systems. It will be used for manning traffic movement at bus bays making sure that drivers stop at designated stops.
  • It will take action against bus crew when they fail to close door once vehicle is in motion and ensure that men are not occupying seats reserved for women.

Lt Gen PJS Pannu designated as Deputy Chief of IDS (operation)

  • Lt Gen PJS Pannu has taken over as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations) from Air Marshal Rajeev Sachdeva 1.
  • He is currently posted as Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine Organisation and Training).
  • He is alumnus of Indian Military Academy (IMA) and was commissioned into 22nd Battalion, The Maratha Light Infantry (MLI) in December 1980.
  • He had commanded battalion from May 1999 to February 2001 in Uri Sector (Jammu and Kashmir) during Operation VIJAY.
  • He also had served as ADG MO and DG Infantry before taking over a prestigious Corps in the Northern Command.

Wipro Founder Azim Premji retires

  • Azim Premji will retire as executive chairman of Wipro Limited upon completion of his current term on July 30, 2019. But he will continue to serve on board as non-executive director and founder chairman.
  • He had been at the helm of WIPRO for more than 50 years. Under his leader Wipro had evoluved from vegetable oil company founded in 1946 into global IT firm.
  • He is India’s second richest man and well-known philanthropist. After his retirement, his son, Rishad Premji, chief strategy officer (CSO) and board member, will take over as executive chairman. CEO Abidali Neemuchwala was appointed as MD.

Bancha: India’s first only solar kitchen village

  • Bancha in Betul district Madhya Pradesh became India’s first only solar kitchen village. It achieved this feat all 75 houses in village shed dependency on wooden stoves and LPG cylinders and used on;y solar-powered stoves to meet their cooking needs. The households in the village use special solar stove developed by team from IIT Mumbai. Its successful model will be replicated in other villages to make them smoke and pollution free.
