Kerala: 1st state to list Masala Bond in overseas market

  • Kerala became first Indian state issue masala bond in oversees market. It listed Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB)’s masala bond  in London Stock Exchange (LSE)’s International Securities Market (ISM).
  • The masala bond are worth of USD 312 million (Rs 2,150 crore. It has tenor of 5-year and a 9.723% coupon.
  • Its main objective is tap masala bond market and to rebuild the infrastructure in Kerala from the proceeds of masala bond.
  • Masala bonds: They are rupee-denominated bonds through which Indian entities can raise money from foreign markets in rupee and not in foreign currency.

BSNL partners with Google to expand WiFi footprint

  • State owned telecom entity- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has partnered with Google on the occasion of World Telecom Day (May 17).
  • The main objective is to expand BSNL’s Wifi footprint in the country.  Currently, there are around 38,000 BSNL Wifi hotspot locations working across country.

Rafael Nadal wins Italian Open 2019 title

Rafael Nadal won 2019 Italian Open title by defeating Novak Djokovic in the finals. It was his 9th Italian title and overall 34th ATP Masters 1000 title

  • Women's Singles: It was won by Czech Republic’s Karolana Pliskova.
  • Men's Doubles: It was won by Colombian pair of Juan Sebastián Cabal  and Robert Farah
  • Women's Doubles: It was won by Belarus’s Victoria Azarenka and Australia’s Ashleigh Barty

India deliveres Mi 24 attack helicopters to Afghan Air Force

  • India has delivered the first pair of Mi-24 attack helicopters as replacement to Afghan Air Force. The helicopters were Purchased from Belarus.
  • The Mi-24 helicopters will help to boost capability of Afghan Air Force. It will also help to enhance effectiveness of Afghan National Defence and Security Force in combating the scourge of terrorism.
  • These two helicopters are replacement for four attack helicopters previously gifted by India to Afghanistan in 2015.
  • India is one of the largest donors to Afghanistan and has committed $3 billion in aid since 2001.
