Japanese PM Fumio Kishida on official visit to India

  • Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida will be in India for a two-day India-Japan Annual Summit that begins on 19th March.
  • This will be Kishida’s first visit to the country since he took charge of the office last year, and also his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The Summit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review and strengthen the bilateral cooperation in diverse areas as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

VolodymyrZelenskyy nominated for Nobel peace prize

  • Several current and former European politicians addressed the Norwegian Nobel Committee with a request to nominate Ukraine’s VolodymyrZelenskyy for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022.
  • The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by a committee elected by the Norwegian Parliament. The committee chooses the laureates from a list in October through a majority vote.
  • This year’s Nobel Prize announcements will take place from 3-10 October. As many as 251 individuals and 92 organizations applied for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.

Roger Federer to donate $5,00,000 for Ukrainian children

  • Tennis great Roger Federer will be donating USD 500,000 to support education for Ukrainian children through his foundation.
  • Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, and has been attacking schools, hospitals and buildings where people sought safety in various cities.
  • Andy Murray said last week that he would donate his prize money won from tennis tournaments in 2022 towards aid efforts for children affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

President Biden appoints PuneetTalwar as envoy to Morocco

  • U.S. President Joe Biden has announced his intent to nominate Indian-American diplomat PuneetTalwar as the country’s ambassador to Morocco.
  • Mr. Talwar has held senior national security and foreign policy positions in the State Department, the White House and the Senate.
  • He previously served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director at the National Security Council, and as a Senior Professional Staff Member at the Committee on Foreign Relations in the United States Senate.
