Artificial intelligence help detect deep fake videos

Date: 20 October 2020 Tags: IT, Mobile & Computers
  • Researchers at Stanford University and UC Berkeley have devised a programme that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect deep fake videos.
  • The programme is said to spot 80% fakes by recognising minute mismatches in the sounds people make and the shape of their mouths.
  • Deepfake videos can be made using face-swapping or lip sync technologies. Face swap videos can be convincing yet crude, leaving digital or visual artifacts that a computer can detect.
  • Although the program may help detect visual anomalies, deep fake detection is a cat-and-mouse game. As deep fake techniques improve, fewer clues will be left behind.
