Indian mixed relay team wins bronze in World U-20 championship

  • The Indian mixed 4X400m relay team bagged bronze medal in the U-20 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi.
  • The Indian quartet of Bharat S, Priya Mohan, Summy and Kapil clocked 3:20.60 seconds to finish third in the final. It is India’s fifth medal in the tournament.
  • India had entered the final as the second best team overall with a championship record timing of 3:23.36s in the heat races held in the morning.

Indian footballer SandeshJhingan to join HNK Sibenik

  • SandeshJhingan will become the first India international footballer to play in the Croatian top-tier league Prva HNL after completing a move from ATK Mohun Bagan to HNK Sibenik.
  • HNK Sibenik returned to the premier division last season under a new management. The club finished sixth in the league, just two positions below qualification to European competitions.
  • Jhingan will join Indian footballers such as BhaichungBhutia, Sunil Chhetri and Gurpreet Sandhu in playing football for European clubs

India to ratify Kigali amendment

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the ratification of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer.
  • The Kigali Amendment aims to phase-down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) by curbing both their production and consumption.
  • Though HFCs do not impact the ozone layer, they are powerful greenhouse gases. HFCs are currently used as replacements for hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which were ozone-depleting gases.

Detention camps in Assam to be known as transit camps

  • Assam’s detention centres for foreigners and those declared such by specific tribunals have been renamed as transit camps.
  • The State currently has six detention centres within as many central jails at Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Silchar and Tezpur. .
  • Official data say 2,551 people were sent to the detention camps from December 29, 2009 to June 30, 2021 after they were declared non-citizens by various Foreigners’ Tribunals.

HAL responds to Malaysia’s RfP for LCA Tejas

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will be bidding to sell 18 LCA Mk1 A fighter aircrafts to the Royal Malaysian Air Force in the light of Malaysian authorities showing interest in the indigenous fighter planes.
  • There are many countries which are showing interest in LCA Mk-1A. Malaysia is looking at procuring 18 aircrafts with the probability of a follow up order of 18 more.
  • The LCA Mk-1A is a fourth-generation fighter aircraft with an Active Electronically-Scanned Array (AESA) radar, an Electronic Warfare (EW) suite, and is capable of air-to-air refuelling (AAR).
