Founder of Adobe Chuck Geschke dies

  • Adobe founder who helped develop Portable Document Format (PDF) document Charles Geschke died at the age of 81.
  • Geschke founded Adobe in 1982 with colleague John Warnock from Xerox. He retired in 2000 and remained on the Adobe board until 2020.
  • After earning a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University, Geschke began working at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. He left the company in 1982 to found Adobe.

Yakshagana academy president M A Hegde passes away

  • Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president, scholar and author M A Hegde died in Bengaluru early. He was 73.
  • Hegde, who was a gifted Yakshagana stage artiste, had written over 15 Yakshagana prasangas (scripts) including ‘Dharma Durantha’, ‘Seetha Viyoga’, ‘Jagruti’,’ Trishanku Charitre’ and ‘Sabarimale Ayyappan.’
  • He had also written books on the issues of Alankara Tatwa, Indian philosophy and Brahmasutra.He was a Sanskrit scholar and had edited Yakshagana prasanga ‘Aadi Parva.’

Railways to run ‘Oxygen Express' trains

  • Indian Railways is getting ready to transport Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) and oxygen cylinders across the key corridors in the country due to rise in Covid cases.
  • Availability of oxygen is a key element in the treatment of certain medical conditions in the Covid infection.
  • Railways explored the technical feasibility of transportation of LMO. LMO has to be transported through Roll On Roll Off (RO RO) service with road tankers placed on flat wagons.
  • In order to ensure that parameters of transportation are tested, trials were conducted at various locations.

Former Assam CM Bhumidhar Burman dies

  • Former Assam chief minister Bhumidhar Barman passed away at a Guwahati after a prolonged illness. He was 89.
  • The Congress veteran was Chief Minister for 23 days from April 22, 1996, after the death of his predecessor Hiteswar Saikia. He had held key portfolios such as Education, Health and Revenue.
  • The holder of an MBBS degree, he was first elected to the Assembly in 1967 from the Barkhetry constituency in western Assam. He won six more State elections from the seat.

Raul Castro to step down as Cuban Communist party chairman

  • Raul Castro has announced that he was handing over leadership of Cuba’s ruling Communist Party to a younger generation.
  • He is expected to formally step down and announce his replacement before the conference ends.Castro stepped down from the office in 2018, replaced by his hand-picked successor, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
  • Castro had announced in 2016 that he would give up his post as secretary-general of the Communist Party during this year’s party congress.
  • The secretary-general is the most powerful position in Cuba, more powerful than the presidency, seen as the second most senior position.
