Sanjay Kothari, the Secretary to the President, has been selected as the new ChiefVigilanceCommissioner by a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The committee has also chosen by a majority decision, former Information and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka, currently serving as an Information Commissioner, as the new Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission.
The Central Vigilance Commission is an-corruptiom watchdog with autonomous status.
The Central Information Commission was constituted under the Right to Information Act and has the jurisdiction over all central public authorities.
The Supreme Court has asked senior advocates Sanjay Hegde, Sadhana Ramachandran and former chief information commissioner Wajahat Habibullah to hold consultations with the agitators at Shaheen Bagh to resolve the issue.
Though a bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph held organising protests is good for democracy and people have a fundamental right to dissent against the Citizenship Amendment Act even when the matter is pending in court, they disapproved the practice of blocking roads and public places during stir.
The court said it is very important that people are allowed to protest but every right comes with a responsibility and there are lines and boundaries within which people should hold protest in democracy.
Kannada actress Kishori Ballal, who won hearts with her portrayal of Kaveri Amma in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Swades passed away in Bengaluru. She was 82.
Ballal made her acting debut with 1960's Ivalentha Hendathi and in her five-decade-long career, she worked in over 75 movies across different languages such as Kahi, Hani Hani, Suryakanthi, Carry On Maratha and Quick Gun Murugun.
She also appeared in Rani Mukerji's Aiyyaa and Deepika Padukone's Lafangey Parindey.
