Astronomers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have discovered two of Neptune’s fourteen moons orbit the planet, while performing a dance like movements.
According to the research, the innermost moons, Naiad and Thalassa, orbit Neptune in a weird unison. Naiad, with a tilted orbit, takes seven hours to complete a revolution while Thalassa, on its outer orbit, takes seven and a half hours to go around Neptune.
Due to it’s tilted orbit, Naiad will be seen twice from above and twice from below as it overtakes the slower Thalassa by four laps.
Researchers think that the previous satellite system was disturbed by Triton, the largest moon of Neptune, which made the current unusual movements.
