NASA detects unusual orbital movements from Neptune’s moons

  • Astronomers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have discovered two of Neptune’s fourteen moons orbit the planet, while performing a dance like movements.
  • According to the research, the innermost moons, Naiad and Thalassa, orbit Neptune in a weird unison. Naiad, with a tilted orbit, takes seven hours to complete a revolution while Thalassa, on its outer orbit, takes seven and a half hours to go around Neptune.
  • Due to it’s tilted orbit, Naiad will be seen twice from above and twice from below as it overtakes the slower Thalassa by four laps.
  • Researchers think that the previous satellite system was disturbed by Triton, the largest moon of Neptune, which made the current unusual movements.

Oxygen bar opened in Delhi

  • Indian-American former PepsiCo head Indra Nooyi and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos have been inducted into the prestigious Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for their accomplishments and positive impact on America’s shared history, development and culture.
  • Founded by Congress in 1962, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery tell the story of America by portraying the people who have made significant contributions to the history, development, and culture of the people of the US.
  • Through the visual arts, performing arts and new media, the Portrait Gallery presents poets and presidents, visionaries and villains, actors and activists whose lives form America’s national identity are included in the gallery.

Justice S. A. Bobde sworn in as CJI

  • Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has been sworn-in as the 47th Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office of the Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind.
  • Outgoing Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had recommended Justice Bobde, the second senior-most judge of the apex court, as his successor.
  • Justice Bobde will serve as CJI for around 18 months and retire on April 23, 2021.
